I'm hanging on to mine :. I tried various brands and card sizes. I thought sd card reader was defect so returned and got a replacement which did the same thing. I installed Windows 10 bit and the card reader slot works fine so clearly something specific to Ubuntu Anyone else see this and have a solution?
I don't have a solution at the moment. I am also suffering from this issue. I've tried a few different kernels but no joy. Has anyone had any luck with SD cards yet? I installed the patched version and although I see WiFi and Bluetooth interfaces, I can't connect to WiFi asks for password, I type it and can't connect and can't connect rapoo Bluetooth keyboard - starts to connect and fails. Any suggestions? Help please.. Im newbie in Linux. Actually I made it boot live on this PCStick.
Just need a bit EFI bootloader pcbox decided that's not going to change. Tested with a bit version though, should test a bit one with bit EFI loader if it works at all. Hope this helps bringing more devices to this awesome OS. Hey, first of all, great job providing this image. I've installed the latest version Linux intelstick 4. Amazon tells me that the computer does not apply the HDCP regulations.. Btw I'm using Chrome since it's the only supported browser and silverlight via pipelight won't work either.
Greetings Fabian. Probably, but as I don't have an Intel Atom tablet I haven't tried. I've got my intel ubuntu stick connected to my old motorola atrix lapdock. It works very well but because of lack of memory errors I can not do any updating of ubuntu. What is the best solution to this problem?
I've removed several applications but that does not free up enough to update. Any help is appreciated. There are plenty of guides on the web explaining how to do this. Another benefit is it will allow you to re-install Ubuntu without loosing your data. Any chance it could work on Jumper Ezbook 2?
You would have to port to the Jumper Ezbook 2 yourself. I have Linuxium Lubuntu It boots fine, even audio and wifi work from the start. I am just about to create a backup of my internal storage. Only thing I noticed now, was a freeze, when I was playing a youtube video, just when I wanted to start the dd backup. But other than that, it really runs great! Thanks a ton for the work!
Once we get the random freezes fixed, this will be a solid OS for my system. Until then I can just boot it from the stick and play around with it. Will quickly try, if I can boot off of an external SD card.
If that works, this is the perfect dual boot for me, since I can just boot of an external device, if I need linux. Thanks man! These ISOs have been superseded. I recommend you try my isorespin script to create an equivalent ISO. How would I run this? SH script on a windows machine?? You should still at least include the iso download, why even remove it? I've tried updating to the latest 4. This one here discussed is triggerd by 3D load and or video playback, running glxgears maximized in the background and overlapped by half with a chromium window playing youtube in a loop.
This lead to freezes in Min. If your system runs in this state more then a few hours, it is something else. I would change connected peripherals and try to isolate or trigger the freeze somehow. In my case i have no syslog or xorg. I have nothing in my logs, and no connected peripherals. I do have four chrome tabs open, set to rotate between the tabs ever 30s and refresh the tab. That being said yesterday afternoon I updated to the intel-drm mainline kernel and the stick made it overnight for the first time.
I installed your xubuntu I even went as far as installing Steam which I had to move to the external SD and create symlinks, but it's ok I played a few Counter Strike games.
Is that something you did on purpose or comes like that with the installer? Can it be changed? After a fresh install I get about 2. Also, I'm running Xubuntu and Kodi on top of that, since kodi installs it's own greeter It's easy to set up Kodi to launch on boot from lightdm, which is set up once and there's no need to do anything else. I was unable to boot USB images of elementaryOS my favorite distro and Windows 7, both images work great on my macbook.
Is anything I'm not aware about the booting process on the stick? Finally Windows 7 isn't officially supported and I am not aware of anyone getting it to work. Hi Ian, was a few days off. Made a fresh install of lubuntu Does your dev kernel have other patches? Yes my ISO plus 4. Good job Ian. Will start a second run to see if it will make it over the weekend.
Caches are running full because of chromium. Many thanks for your testing. Do you have any pointers on that issue? I also tried chainloading from the stock grub, but haven't yet been able to figure out the magic combination to make grub see the UFS partition on the stick. What I'd like is a link to your kernel source it's GPLv3 after all so I can look at the mods necessary for HDMI sound, bluetooth, and wifi, should they not work once I get it installed.
I tried a variety of options, for example, disable all boot devices except for USB, two different ISO's Ubuntu Mate and Lubuntu on two different sticks, but still no choices on the "F10" boot page. Any clues? Thanks, Chuck Mosher. Can you clarify the steps you took? Thanks for the reply! This time, my "Setup" pages matched your video, and I was able to install and get up and running!
Thanks again for the work you have done to make it possible for us to follow in your footsteps! Best regards, Chuck Mosher. BUT when trying to install to the internal drive it fails when reaching "Installing the 'grub2 package Without the GRUB boot loader, the installed system will not boot.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you for your work. Should I update bios or change some bios settings? How did you prepare your USB? Did you use "dd" on Linux or "rufus" on Windows? I've never tried that way so maybe it doesn't work? I'd like to get Debian 8 working. The installer boots ok, but it doesn't seem to detect the internal 32GB storage. If I can get to the point of getting the storage working, then the rest should come easy enough. What kernel modules enable the internal storage?
Is there some place with detailed steps? Also, its the stock Debian 8 installer than I'm attempting to use. It does prompt for the wireless firmware Answering my own questions in case others come here.
The internal storage is considered a mmc device. Debian testing version worked fine. Still need the Intel wireless firmware but that should be pretty easy to come by.
I am naive in this matter. Trying to learn. I had downloaded original version and just saw your blog that you have modified it to enable sound and audio.
Currently I am not getting sound. Everything is working fine otherwise. Is there a way or a patch around which can be loaded to enable sound or do I uninstall and reinstall your modified version. Please help. Got the iso and dd'd it to a USB drive. I can select the USB stick using the uefi boot menu F I select that. Then for a split second, I see a message like "efi: requested map not found", then the MATE logo screen shows up and soon after I am back to my existing What am I missing here, since everybody else seems to have no problem booting from usb?
Any hints are greatly appreciated. Thank You, Markus. Hello, I would like to download ubuntu How do I get access? It has been superseded. Respin a Had to put external USB wifi dongle to still have wireless compatibility. I'm not able to use the. Can someone please link the Kubuntu or other distro ISO? Can you explain why not as maybe with 'help' you might be able to. I don't run Linux on my own system, since I need windows for gaming, but I always help my computer-illiterate father out with Linux installations on his devices, since he doesn't need Windows.
For whatever reason, his intel compute stick with windows on it got bricked after a year of use, just a few days after the warranty ran out.
We want to try and get Kubuntu on it as a last resort. If I could just get an old "respun" kubuntu iso for the compute stick, we could maybe get it working again instead of having to buy something else or buy windows I guess, but my father likes linux.
If you are unable to load the Techbench web page, please use the Media Creation Tool. Ok so bad news half way down the road my stick stopped to work. I had just finished resizing windows to make place for linux and when I restarted the stick it stopped working now it does nothing it wont even get to bios. First let me clarify your last actions. Your last successful boot was in Windows where you entered 'Disk Management' and then successfully created space for Ubuntu?
Then you went to reboot to the USB using F10 but it stopped at that point and now it does nothing, correct? It is correct except the last part. On the last reboot after resizing win c when i had ubuntu on an usb drive plugged in to the stick to start linux install, so after reboot nothing happened and nothing happens since the stick didnt even get to the point where i have the f2, f10, etc options.
Basically nothing happens when I try to boot up the stick. Okay, lets assume the resize failed. Xubuntu uses the Xfce desktop environment.
Kubuntu uses KDE's Plasma desktop environment. Ubuntu Budgie uses the Budgie desktop environment. Ubuntu is well suited to mini PCs as the flavours provide the option of running a fast but lightweight operating system that can take advantage of the lesser hardware specifications.
They will work on other Atom Bay Trail and Cherry Trail with varying success in part due to the functionality provided by the device's BIOS which typically affects the success of bluetooth and assuming the device has either Realtek BS or other officially support wifi including Intel. I've also included the latest patches that try to reduce the random freezes that have been known to occur.
Because the ISOs include a patched kernel to provide the missing functionality it means no automatic Ubuntu kernel updates although other application packages will update as normal.
Consequently I've also developed a manual patching process where a script can be downloaded and then executed to update the kernel to match the latest releases. I've also configured the ISOs to both run and install using either a bit or bit bootloader to provide the ability to easily dual-boot without needing to modify the BIOS. The USB can then be used to boot from after powering-on the device. For installation to the device's internal storage simply run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
Issues should be reported as comments on the associated development blog posting on www. The best way to help when reporting an issue is to include the name of your device and a copy of the output from 'dmesg' which is basically a log of kernel messages. After installing the command by entering 'sudo apt install pastebinit' you can share the kernel messages log by entering 'dmesg pastebinit'.
This will paste a copy of the output from 'dmesg' to Ubuntu's Pastebin and provide an URL to access it. So when reporting an issue please include:. Outline of issue.
